Impeachment Campaign gives Congress ultimatum in response to Trump’s escalating racism

Donald Trump is doubling down after the dehumanizing, racist tweets he made targeting women of color in Congress, stating that they should go back to the “totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” At the same time, the Trump Administration escalated violence at the southern border and toward immigrants across the country. These recent acts have ignited further calls for impeachment.

In response, By the People is issuing an ultimatum to Congress: launch an impeachment inquiry before the August recess or Americans across the country will not let you rest when you are home.

By the People has launched the ultimatum with a new campaign video that calls on Americans across the country to take action during the summer recess at

By the People Executive Director Alexandra Flores-Quilty said on Monday: “Donald Trump claims to love America, but hates millions of Americans. He’s a criminal, a racist, and in violation of the Constitution. Every day that we wait to impeach and remove this man is a reckless endangerment to the American people and our democracy. If you care about our democracy, if you believe in the highest ideals of this country, if you are a real patriot—there is only one choice for what we must do right now. We must impeach.”

Anthony Torres, a volunteer leader with By the People said, “Loving this country means fighting relentlessly for America’s unfulfilled promise of liberty and justice for all who call this country home. Trump is detaining thousands of Americans, inciting racist violence, and making a mockery of our system of checks and balances. We, the people and our Congress must rise up to this constitutional crisis and put an end to his tyranny while we still can.”

In response to the House majority effort to censure the President for his racist remarks, Flores-Quilty said, “A censure is not going to stop the violence and corruption of this administration. The only legitimate course of action is impeachment—anything less is cowardly lip service. Congress needs to stop playing parliamentary games when babies are dying in ICE custody and opponents of this administration become targets of white nationalist violence. Nancy Pelosi is irresponsible for not beginning an impeachment inquiry and is failing her constitutional duty.”

In response to Trump’s attacks, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib stated, “Want a response to a lawless and complete failure of a President? He needs to be impeached.”
