WASHINGTON —  Nine protesters with By the People, a new advocacy group pushing for the impeachment of President Trump, and CREDO Action, were arrested on Wednesday outside the office of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as they urged members of Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against the president.

Earlier in the day, the activists met with Rep. Rashida Tlaib to thank her for her courageous leadership in calling for Donald Trump’s impeachment and signing By the People's pledge to impeach Trump. She also announced that she will soon be introducing a resolution urging her colleagues in Congress to reconsider presidential impeachment, given recent news reports of criminal wrongdoing by President Trump and several of his closest aides. The resolution would enable the House Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment investigations.

Raw video of Rep. Tlaib's remarks and the protest – which you are welcome to use with attribution to CREDO – can be found here:

“This President continues to violate the constitution and perform impeachable actions while in the Oval Office,” said Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. “From campaign finance violations, violating the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, to obstruction of justice, his conduct has created a constitutional crisis that we must confront now. Congress must be a check on this President and we must act swiftly.”

“Donald Trump has spent his entire presidency undermining our rights and our democracy for his own gain,” said Alexandra Flores-Quilty, spokesperson for By the People. “The American people say enough is enough, and today we begin the movement to impeach Donald Trump. This isn’t about party politics — it’s about what’s best for our country. We have plenty of evidence of Trump’s impeachable offenses. We’re calling on members of Congress to do their jobs by holding this dangerous man accountable and removing him from office. Representative Rashida Tlaib showed moral courage and much-needed leadership today — we call on our other members of Congress to follow.”

“We deserve to live in a country where Americans can have confidence that their president isn’t committing crimes,” said Heidi Hess, co-director of CREDO Action. “We’re hopeful that the bravery of these protesters, as well as that of Rep. Tlaib, can compel Congress to act in removing this dangerous and immoral president from office before the harm he’s inflicting becomes irreversible.”
